Local Folklore or is it More?

One thing people enjoy about living in Northern Nevada is the promise and experience of the change of seasons. Winter, Fall, Summer and Spring bring new colors, new textures and new temperatures for all the Northern Nevada Residents. The transition from Winter to Spring can be lengthy and misleading. We may experience weather that is in the high 60’s or low 70’s during the day then the next day we are looking at a light blanket of snow from the night before. This weather flex can make it almost impossible to gauge when to plant your outdoor flowers, shrubs or gardens.

Nestled in the North Valleys is Peavine Mountain. Peavine is beautiful throughout all the seasons. Peavine is a place where people can take their off-road vehicles, they can find a hiking trail suitable for any level, there are the Crystal Caves and even waterfalls. But to locals, Peavine also serves as a beacon to tell when it is time to start planting outdoors. It is said by all the locals and longest standing members of the community that one must wait until all the snow has melted from the highest peaks to start planting, if one plants sooner they will lose their plantings to a possible freeze. This is not a scientific method but I know when I planted before the snow melted my flowers froze. Is this just folklore or is it more?
